How to Select Watermelons

How to Select Watermelons

  • Visual Appearance – Watermelons should be symmetrical and free of any major gashes, bruises or soft spots
  • Weight – Watermelons are 92% water, so the melon should be very heavy for it’s size
  • Check for ground spot – A ground spot occurs where the watermelon sat on the ground while ripening.  It should be a buttery yellow color.  It shouldn’t be too white/green (underripe) or dark yellow (overripe).
